An incomplete copper alloy Early Iron Age socketed axehead (c.800-600BC), missing part of its rim and suffering damage to its cutting edge. The axehead has an almost square socket mouth, a rectangular cross-section and three ribs terminating in pellets on each face. It is therefore a Type Sompting, Variant Cardiff II axe, belonging to the Llyn Fawr metalwork assemblage. The axehead also has a semi circular loop near the socket rim on one side. The casting seams are barely visible. The axehead has a brown patina with large patches of green corrosion where the patina has come away.
