Stone: Moderately compacted sandstone with occasional black flecks, perhaps from Coal Measures (non-specialist identification by MF).
Beehive Quern top stone. Carved plano-convex top stone fragment from a beehive quern; about one half of the stone remains, having broken across the feeder hole and, apparently, two handle holes - one presumably replaced the other. The top of stone has been flattened, albeit at an eccentric angle to the lower flat working surface.
A broad hopper of estimated diameter 110mm narrows to meet the lower part of an hour-glass shaped feeder chan…

Copper alloy possible brooch fragment. Cast terminal, possibly from a Pennanular Brooch, comprising part of a massy round section band of diameter 8.8mm and a ball terminal of diameter 13mm, apparently uncollared. If this identification is sustained, this could be a simple example of Fowler's Class A. Alternatively, this may be from a bangle, bracelet or neck ring decorated according to similar conventions. A deep honey-coloured patina is disrupted by more recent abrasion and corrosion, and the band may have been bent into a more sharply curved form than as was originally made. Sugges…

Dark calcite gritted fabric with oxidised surfaces and reduced core. Bodysherd. Abraded. Wallace Collyer and Mike Hemblade kindly comment that this is unlike any pottery in the NorthLincolnshireMuseum reference collection, and that it may represent an Iron Age fabric. Celtic Unit. Hammered part unit; the size resembles that of silver fractional units of the Corieltauvi, the 'Hostidius' issue. However, neither side of this coin resembles the design on these coins, so a Corieltauvian origin could only be suggested from the findspot. There is no indication this coin has been plated, and patina remains over much of its surface.
Suggested date: Late Iron Age to Early Roman, 50BC-50AD.

Ingot fragment. Flat tongue-shaped fragment of an ingot; the texture of its surface suggests it was cast in a sand mould. Pink staining appears in patches on the external surface. The ingot is bent, and one end, along with an uncertain amount of metal, is lost. Complete examples of this form have recently been reported from Bigby (NLM-EBBC25) and Scawby (NLM-A94C57), both Lincolnshire. In these cases, a relationship of their weights with a pre-Roman metrical system was considered. This example comes from a larger ingot, and as one end is broken, any such correspon…

Silver
Possible coin. No details are legible on either abraded side; however, the object was bagged together with a fractional Celtic Unit. The weight and size would be compatible with South Ferriby Type silver units, e.g. Van Arsdell 884-1 or 887-1, dated to 45-10 BC. Suggested date: Possibly Late Iron Age.

Brooch. Complete cast La Tene III or Nauheim Derivative one-piece brooch with two coil spring at its head and a pointed oval-section pin; a curved bow of rounded section narrows slightly towards a folded unpierced catch-plate. A close parallel comes from Owmby, Lincolnshire (Hattatt 1985 no. 243), which is considered a northern outlier of this Belgic class of brooch. The pin is bent out of alignment, otherwise the object is in good condition. Suggested date: Late Iron Age, 100 BC to 50 AD.

Copper alloy coin. Concavo-convex or dish shaped Celtic Unit, with hammered design discernible on one (the concave) side.
Obverse description: Blank.
Reverse description: Adjacent convergent members, a pellet or pellets detached from these.
Cliff Reeves kindly examined this coin, and suggested it to be pre-Roman. The size and characteristics resemble those of a South Ferriby silver unit (e.g. Van Arsdell no. 887-1; of diameter 14mm and weight 1gm), though this example appears to be copper alloy, and is a little larger and heavier. Suggested date: Late Iron Age, 45-10BC.…
