Four sherds of ceramic vessel all of which are Prehistoric in date, and more specifically probably Iron Age. All of the sherds contain angular flint inclusions, but slightly smaller in size than those in the sherds described in PAS record CAM-28EBBO, and quartz inclusions. The four sherds have a total combined weight of 38.62g. Two of the sherds are light grey in colour with hints of orange. The larger sherd weighs 13.45g, is 9.08mm increasing to 9.98mm, possibly widening at the base of the vessel side just before it would have changed angle to form the vessel base however not enoug…

Single pottery sherd, found near Oundle. Weight 34.8g, thickness 8.50mm, other (maximum) dimensions 67.19mm x 54.92mm. Definitely a fragment from a Prehistoric (pre-Roman) vessel. The sherd might be from an Iron Age vessel but this would need to be confirmed for definite by a Prehistoric pottery specialist.

A copper-alloy La Téne III style brooch of 10 – 100 AD. The bow is flat and undecorated with a rectangular cross-section. It is 4.41mm wide and 1.05mm thick. At the head the bow turns down by 90 degrees and then curves upwards to form the start of the spring, of which only two turns on the left of the brooch survive. The spring has an external diameter of 8.25mm and internal diameter of 3.70mm. At the tail end of the bow a relatively large triangular catch-plate survives although the return is missing. The catch-plate is 12.51mm long by 8.78mm and 1.04mm thick. Overall dimens…

Fragment of a copper-alloy brooch. Only a fragment of the brooch survives and in poor condition making it impossible to give a precise identification. It probably dates from the first quarter of the first century BC to the end of the first century AD. The pin was hinged from cylindrical wings the ends of which might be missing however this is uncertain due to corrosion. The head of the bow might have been of a triangular shape although the edges are now broken or corroded away. This area contains two parallel lines of decorative beading, 1.14mm wide, and 3.27mm apart, parallel to the …

A copper-alloy artefact fragment. The fragment might be part of a La Tene Class I brooch (see Mills, N. 2000 p.39 item C63) and (Cuddleford, M.J. 1994 p.24 & 26, item 7). The surfaces are undecorated. One end of the loop or bow ends with a flat platform, possibly a ‘wing’ if it is a fibula brooch (12.23mm long, 3.78mm wide and 1.22mm thick) extending at a right-angle from the bow. Beyond this platform the object narrows and turns back up towards, and the end rests against the bow. The other end of the artefact has broken off at the point where the bow bends back down opposite…

An Eastern (North Thames) copper-alloy unit of Cunobelin, c. AD 10-40. The type is ABC (Cottam et al 2010) 2996. It is an example of the rare bull type with the inscription TROCC, an inscription that presumably refers to a subordinate ruler or ally of Cunobelin. There are no examples of the TROCC type in the British Museum collection.

Unidentified copper-alloy artefact of late Iron Age date, possibly a handle. This artefact resembles part of a bridle bit and is very similar to the bridle bit recorded in PAS record BH-9EDAF7 however the dimensions are very slight for that use and the socketed terminal is unknown on such items. This item may also be mistakenly thought to resemble late Iron Age mirror handles although this is "too small and the terminal loop is also not big enough" as well as the terminal socket seeming to exclude such an identification which is the opinion of Dr Jody Joy and Julia Farley. The arte…

Similar to the mortar described in PAS record: SWYOR-B71402, this cast copper alloy Romano-British cosmetic mortar is an end looped type. Having a later Iron Age to Roman date it probably dates from AD 1 - AD 300. This mortar has a crescent shaped bow, acute V-shaped keel (the artefact's cross-section) and fairly straight, just slightly convexly curved external walls. At one end is a simple projecting knobbed terminal of 6.0mm diameter (width axis). Possibly a subtle shallow, and now very worn, groove is present around this pellet c.1.0mm after it starts.
