Obverse: Simplified boar right with one front leg below knee, large ring of pellets above, various pellets in rings around. A copper-alloy cosmetic mortar of c.1st to 2nd century AD date. This artefact weighs 18.96g, has a length of 54.4mm and maximum width of 8.9mm. At the base of the bow, the convex side of the curve, the bow has a width of 5.0mm. As described by Jackson, R. 1985, the bow is crescentic when viewed in profile and elliptic when viewed from above or below with a grooved channel running along the inner concave side of the curve. An incomplete Iron Age to early Roman cosmetic mortar (also referred to as a woad grinder). This copper-alloy artefact has an incomplete concave crescent shaped bow with a simplified zoomorphic shaped bovine terminal at the surviving end. The central groove along the artefact extends across the top of beast's head, decreasing in depth to the very top of the head between the horns. Similar to the mortar described in PAS record: SWYOR-B71402, this cast copper alloy Romano-British cosmetic mortar is an end looped type. Having a later Iron Age to Roman date it probably dates from AD 1 - AD 300. This mortar has a crescent shaped bow, acute V-shaped keel (the artefact's cross-section) and fairly straight, just slightly convexly curved external walls. At one end is a simple projecting knobbed terminal of 6.0mm diameter (width axis). Possibly a subtle shallow, and now very worn, groove is present around this pellet c.1.0mm after it starts. A late Iron Age to early Roman cast copper-alloy toggle. The toggle weighs 18.52g and has a D-shaped profile. The back is flat and undecorated. Without the flattened back the artefact could be described as a moulded cylinder or barrel, with triangular attachment loop projecting from the side. The body of the toggle measures 22.9mm with a maximum depth of 12.0mm and 13.8mm on the axis of the projecting loop.
