Fourteen fragments of gold alloy (electrum) twisted round-sectioned wire. All, apart from three single pieces, consist of two twisted wires. All are broken at both ends into lengths between 10mm and 29.5mm. Diameter of cross-section 1.5 - 1.7mm. Weight 12.97g.
The findspot is close to an area in which 148 very similar fragments were recovered by the same finder between 1987 and 1996 (BM acc nos. 1989, 1201.1-2; 1990, 0304.1-135; 1991, 0602.1-7; 1997, 0901.1-3). On the reverses of two buffer terminals of a Late Iron Age torc found in 1985 (BM acc. nos. 1985, 1204.1-2) are the stum…

A gold terminal of an Iron Age torc; the object was found by Dr Hammond whilst metal detecting as part of a survey conducted by SHARP (Sedgeford Historical and Archaeological Research Project) as part of their long running study of the history and archaeology of the parish of Sedgeford. See here for more information.
This terminal comes from the same Iron Age torc or neck ring discovered in 1965. When the 'Sedgeford Torc' was originally found one of the two terminals was missing. This discovery is almost certainly the missing terminal. It is identical in size and design to the earli…

The find consists of a single Iron Age twisted multi-strand style torc with ring terminals similar to others found in Norfolk over the last 60 years. The torc has an internal diameter of approximately 20 cm. It is made of predominantly gold and silver.
It is made from four strands of wires twisted around each other two and a half times. Each of the 4 strands is made from 6 wires (c. 3 mm thick). The strands are alternately twisted one clockwise and the next counter clockwise. The strands were cast on to the terminals. Evidence for this is clearly visible …

Iron Age/Romano-British copper alloy toggle, cast sub-rectangular, corroded and pitted, longitudinally convex with sides flaring from relief decoration comprising the addorsed double-lunate motif of the Iceni. Longitudinally concave reverse with integral pierced vertical triangular attachment bar. >19 x 23mm. It is possible that this toggle would have been used for fastening bags, clothes or straps. It dates to the Late Iron Age/Early Roman period, 1st century AD.

Iron Age toggle, incomplete loop on end of short, slightly curved, shank. The head is round-sectioned, flat-ended and with a broad grooved moulding on both sides of the springing of the shank. Head length 16.5mm, diameter 7mm. There is a distance of 5mm between the head and the aperture of the loop. This is an atypical form, most toggles either having a transverse aperture in the head or a loop springing directly from the head, and in view of this the object would perhaps be better described as a button-and-loop fastener. 1st century BC/AD.

An Iron Age/Romano-British toggle, cast in the form of two cones flanking a biconvex moulding, with the remains of an iron loop inserted at the mid-point. For use in fastening bags, clothes or straps. The iron insertion can be compared with an example with convex ends from Marham (Norfolk Historic Environment Record no. 29231; PAS NMS-0299F5). It measures 15 x 11mm and dates from the 1st century AD.

Iron Age cylindrical belt-slide or toggle, very similar to an example from Fison Way, Thetford (Gregory 1992, 132, fig.116 no.15). This example has rectangular (rather than pointed oval) openings in the sides, and is open, bead-like, at both ends. A date in the later Iron Age (c.second century BC - first century AD) seems most likely). Length 18mm, diameter 9.5mm and 10.5mm at ends.

Cylindrical body with slot through a central bulge. The ends are capped by circular lugs. Raised band around centre. A small circular pit to either side of the slot on one side of the toggle gives the impression of a pair of 'eyes'. These were probably once filled with enamel. Indeed, one of these pits retains a miniscule amount of red/orange enamel.
