Description: 54 silver denarii ranging in date from issues of the Roman Republic to those of Tiberius. The coins were found scattered over a relatively small area and represent additions to the first part of this hoard found in 2012 (NMS-A00F04). As with the first part of the hoard, dating is difficult and all that can be safely said is that this hoard was deposited at some point from the Roman invasion of Britain in AD43 and the Boudiccan revolt in 61. The lack of any coins of either Caligula or Claudius in this second batch perhaps suggests that the deposition or loss of this hoard l…

59 silver denarii ranging in date from issues of the Roman Republic to those of Tiberius. The coins were found scattered over a relatively small area and clearly represent part of a hoard scattered by agricultural activity. Wear patterns are consistent with this, the older coins generally being the most worn. Dating is difficult and one's initial reaction is to connect this hoard to the Roman invasion of AD43. However, the latest coins, those of Tiberius, still show some wear and had plainly circulated for a number of years. It seems more likely, on the balance of probabilities, that …

Two Iron Age East Anglian silver units of pattern-horse types, the reverse sides of which were found accreted together. These are traditionally attributed to the Iceni, who are known to have inhabited an area covering Norfolk and parts of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire in the Roman period (and perhaps before). The coins were brought to the British Museum in November 2012, where they were separated by the Department of Conservation and Scientific Research. They are now identified as follows: East Anglian pattern-horse silver unit. The reverse was too worn for the type to be fully ide…
