Possibly burnt and deformed or miscast fragment of a Late Iron Age to Roman enamelled copper-alloy terret. It consists of a short length of the curved loop terminating in an ancient break at one end and an expanded oval collar followed immediately by another ancient break at the other. The loop is broadly triangular in cross-section, being pointed at the external edge with a flat internal face. At least, that part of the internal face closest to the collar is flat. At the opposite end it becomes lumpy and amorphous. The other two faces each contain one complete and on…

A worn and incomplete cast copper-alloy (probably leaded) unidentified object of a known type usually referred to as 'moustache-like' or 'moustache shaped'. These objects are thought to date from the Middle Bronze Age to the Iron Age, after the discovery of one in the Salisbury Hoard (Stead, 1998, no.117) and various other finds reported to the PAS which are associated with Middle Bronze Age material. The object consists of a pair of solid three-dimensional pointed ovoids the bulbous upper parts of which are conjoined to each other by a bar stretching between the upper sides. The bar …

Incomplete probably Late Iron Age to Early Roman brooch of uncertain type. The head has not survived. A round-sectioned tenon-like projection from the upper end of the bow is probably incomplete. It might have continued to form the spring and pin but there there is no evidence for wings. The rectangular-sectioned bow descends to a pointed foot and is decorated on the front face with two moulded longitudinal grooves which merge and then fade out before the foot. On the folded-over part of the solid catchplate there are eight transverse, probably moulded, grooves (cf.…

Copper alloy U-shaped loop, probably the high arch bow from an early (probably Adams type1) Iron Age brooch. The oval sectioned bow thickens and widens towards its centre with a straightening kick at both broken ends of the loop, indicating the bow survives complete; as such, the head and foot section of the brooch are missing from these old breaks. The bow has vestiges of decoration on the upper surface appearing to consist of low relief curvilinear chevrons reaching back towards the centre of the bow from oval features at either end. Circa 450-350 BC.
