A gold Iron Age Gallo-Belgic quarter stater, dating to the period c.80-60 BC, Gallo-Belgic D / Boat Tree type. Obverse: Boat with two occupants? Pellet to left. Reverse: Tree-like motif, wedge shaped line to either side, forked line below.  The weight of this coin, combined with the pellet in obverse field and wedge shaped motifs in reverse field suggest that this is probably a Gallo-Belgic D rather than an insular British type. See Sills, 2017: p. 15, no. 25; ABC p. 29, no. 40; Scheers 13. Diameter: 10.88 mm Weight: 1.47 g

The coins consist of 11 South Western British uninscribed silver staters commonly associated with the Durotriges, a people thought to have inhabited an area covering the modern county of Dorset, parts of Somerset, Wiltshire and Hampshire and the Isle of Wight during the late Iron Age. The silver coins appear to be all of the type ABC 2169 / VA 1235-1 / BMC 2555ff produced from about 60/50 BC to the late first century BC. However in most cases the coin design is too indistinct to be certain that they do not belong to varieties of this type. The coins are fairly worn in appearance an…
