A fragment of a cast copper alloy object. lync Sub-oval, bulbous, hollowed object with a solid, flattened terminal. The object contstricts before flaring out into the sub-circular disc terminal. Around the widest part of the hollowed section there is a band of oval facets. The object is heavy for its size suggesting the alloy is leaded bronze. Possibly part of a lynch-pin. A cast copper alloy Birdlip brooch of late Iron Age date. The brooch measures 54.2mm in length and weighs 12.4g. The integral sprung pin has broken off the oval upper bow. Part way down the bow there is a moulded transverse projecting disc and below this a further moulded projection which curves upwards and narrows to bluntly pointed terminal. Below this the bow narrows gradually into a plain rounded foot. On the back of the lower part of the bow is the incomplete flat catchplate, which has two cut-out sections. A cast copper alloy Langton Down brooch of early Roman date. The brooch measures 40mm in length and weighs 5.5g. The measurement across the incomplete cylindrical wings is 16.6mm. They conceal the remains of the spring for the missing pin. The bow has a thin rectangular cross section which is consistent throughout its length. On the front is engraved decoration comprising a vertical dotted double linear border beside each edge with a wavy line and spirals within. On the back are the remains of the perforated catchplate. Cast copper alloy La Tène I brooch. A large one piece bow brooch. At the head is the spring of coiled wire and its external chord. This was drawn from the main body of the brooch. Below this the brooch expands into D-sectioned arching bow, dropping to a tapered foot with a hooked catchplate to the right side. An incomplete copper alloy one-piece brooch. A La Tène III/Nauheim derivative type. The brooch is twisted and bent out of shape. At the head is the integral spring comprising two sets of two coils. The ones on the left side of the head are still in situ. Together with the chord, the right hand coils have been pulled over to the left and one coil unwound completely. The bow is D-sectioned and of a tapering leaf-shape. The end of the bow extends into a very narrow foot which is flattened out into the remnant of the catchplate. An incomplete cast copper alloy pin. The shaft is circular in cross section and tapers to the break point (from 3.12 mm to 2.49 mm) The head is disc shaped and has a concentric ridge framing a groove around a central domed projection. Below the head is a narrow ridge or collar around the shaft. Dr Kevin Leahy has suggested an Iron Age date for this pin.
