An incomplete copper alloy La Tene I brooch. A one-piece brooch. The bow of the brooch and part of the foot and catchplate survive but the spring and pin are missing. The arched bow is D-shaped in cross section.

These were produced in South-Western Britain in the second half of the first century BC (c. 60 to 20 BC) and traditionally attributed to the tribe later referred to as the Durotriges. Their coins are mainly found in the modern counties of Dorset, Hampshire and surrounding areas.

Iron Age copper alloy decorative terminal, probably of 1st century BC to 1st century AD date
The cast terminal is of near-circular, globular form and is incomplete, missing the integral shaft (with a surviving length of 16.4mm and a weight of 24.7g). At the apex is a circular recessed cell (3.6mm diameter and 1.2mm deep), which retains remnants of red enamel of red ‘sealing-wax’ type. A complete, cast, socketed copper alloy axe head. The mouth is sub-rectangular with the long axis parallel with the blade. It has a single moulded collar around the exterior of the opening. An incomplete copper alloy bow brooch. A Colchester one-piece type. The bow, wings and one coil of the integral pin only remaining. At the head are two small, flat wings. Drawn from the rear of the head is the coil of the integral sprung pin mechanism. Also extending from the rear of the centre of the head is a tapered forward hook which probably housed the missing chord of the pin mechanism. Unfinished, incomplete shale bracelet. A partially worked rough-out for a circular shale bracelet which probably broke during manufacture. About half remains in the form of a crescent shaped piece of shale with a convex front and flat underside. The outer edge has been smoothed and rounded, but the inner edge is still roughly chipped. A complete copper alloy Romano-British cosmetic pestle, from a small portable grinding set. A cresent-shaped rod with a large, integral central loop projecting from the upper edge of its concave side. The loop is U-shaped with a central circular aperture and is slightly inset to the rod, without a neck or shank. The rod has a rounded cross section and is slightly asymmetrical, with both ends tapering to a point.

A copper alloy ring of probably Iron Age to Roman date (c. 300 BC - AD 100). The ring is circular in cross-section. It is decorated by a finely executed raised wavy line within a recessed median band. The inner surface of the band is smooth and shows signs of wear whcih may indicate where is has rubbed on a strap. The ring has a smooth dark green patina with large areas of pitting which are light green and slightly powdery. A probably mount or possible bead. A solid looped band of cast copper alloy. It is D-shaped in profile. The outer face is decorated with cast transverse ridges an grooves. The curved front face is wider than the flatter rear face and is decorated with a central pair ridges flanked by a wide grooves and an outer ridge along each edge. The rear face is decorated with four equal ridges with narrow grooves between. The internal face is flat and undecorated. At the rear the upper and lower ridges have torn along the line of the grooves.

An Iron Age to Early Roman copper alloy bead, probably dating to c. 800 BC - AD 100. The bead is circular in plan and biconical in cross section, with a circumferential ridge emphasised by slight incised lines. The bead has a large, central, circular perforation 6.2mm in diameter.
Dimensions: diameter 15.1mm; thickness 7.3mm weight 5.14g.
cf. BH-431B44 and SUR-14AA83, amongst others for similar examples on this database. A larger example, but of similar form, was excavated at Camerton and dated to c. 50 BC - AD 50 (Jackson 1990: 48 & plt. 14).
