An incomplete possible escutcheon (handle fitting) or mount. The object is subcircular with a deep recess on either face. The side is partially decorated with three grooves containing traces of red enamel. Date: Iron Age - c. A copper alloy Iron Age or Roman decorative mount most likely part of a horse harness fitting dating to the period c. 100 BC - AD 50. It consists of a central circular disc, slightly domed on the obverse and flat on the reverse with a circular central perforation. The disc measures 23.43mm in diameter, with an internal diameter of 10.18mm. The disc is decorated with a circle of punched dots with a circular perforation at the bottom within which a copper alloy rivet is still in situ and projects from the reverse. An incomplete cast copper alloy Iron Age or Roman mount dating to the period c. 300BC - AD 100. It is possibly a decorative shield clip, although it has also been suggested that this type of mount derives from a bucket, tankard or vessel. The mount consists of a hollow tubular sheet of copper alloy decorated with a pair of moulded ridges at each end, with two further curving ridges which meet at their apex to create an X shape in the centre. It is possibly a decorative shield clip, although it has also been suggested that this type of mount derives from a bucket, tankard or vessel. An incomplete cast copper alloy Iron Age or Roman mount, possibly a decorative shield clip dating to the period c. 300BC - AD 100. The mount consists of a hollow tubular sheet of copper alloy decorated with a series of raised collars in a "reel and bead" design. Cf. SUSS-D4AAD7 for a similar example on the database. Similar objects have been illustrated in a report on excavations at Cadbury Castle, Somerset (Barrett et al., 2000); cf. also Worrell 2009, 'Draft Iron Age Artefact Identification Guide', p 22.
