An incomplete Roman copper alloy strip bow brooch, a British variant of an Aucissa brooch, dating to c. AD 20 - 70. The surviving fragment comprises of the upper bow and damaged head, the rest of the brooch being lost to old breaks. The head of the brooch is rolled back to hold an iron axis bar, partially surviving in situ and with a rectangualr slot cut to accommodate a hinged pin. An incomplete cast copper alloy possible baldric ring. The ring is oval with a wide bezel at one side. The bezel is rectangular with decoration of three deeply moiulded transverse ridges. A complete copper-alloy type toggle of late Iron Age to Roman date, c.100 BC - AD 250. The head of the object is formed of two pierced loops in a figure of eight. An integral shank extends down from the reverse of the head and bends at 90 degrees before splitting in to two arms, forming a triangular loop. A Late Iron Age to Early Roman copper alloy hinged strip bow brooch, probably dating to AD 25-70. The brooch survives largely complete, missing only its axis bar and pin. The head of the brooch survives to a width of 10.3mm, it consists of a rectangular sheet of copper alloy with a central slot to accomodate a hinged pin, this is rolled around underneath itself to form a cylindrical casing for an axis bar, now lost. A copper alloy miniature spear head, probably dating to the Iron Age to early Roman period. It is broadly leaf shaped with a long pointed tip, it continues to the stem which has an oval sectioned socket which appears hollow (although partially filled with soil). Date: Dimensions:57.4mm x 9.90mm x 2.11mm Weight: 3.93g. There are database records for similar objects, including LIN-B052A0 where Adam Daubney notes that: Miniature spears are difficult to date although they are thought to range from circa 400BC to the mid-late 1st century AD.
