An ingot of probable gold and silver. It is broken, at the break is a 'nick' which extends into the ingot for approx. 2mm and then the break occurs under this. The other end, which is an original terminal, is slightly bulbous. It is a pale gold colour and may be an alloy rather then a pure metal. Some flow marks are apparent as a result of casting, and the surfaces are all pitted, reminiscent of being cast in sand. Ingots such as these can be dated to the late Bronze Age (see Treasure Annual Report 1998-9, Item 11 and 12), although they are also found in the early medieva…

Early Medieval lead alloy weight with copper alloy inset. The weight is square in plan, and rectangular in section and profile. An early medieval copper alloy strap end. It is sub rectangular, curving towards the top to form a point. There is a plain frame around the edge, and inside this there is a design comprised of two elements. At the bottom is a circle enclosing a saltire, the two upper arms of the saltire extend beyond the circle to form an interlocked knot design. Probably a copper alloy spur goad, possibly Early Medieval to Medieval. It is also possible that it may be a Roman or later conical weight (like YORYM-BF10DD). Only the conical goad and a short length of the neck are present. The neck is flaring suggesting it was very short. Assuming it is a goad then the conical goad and short neck suggest an Early Medieval date. Possibly dates to between c700 and c1100 AD. Length 22mm, diameter 13mm, weight 8.46g
