A fragment of a copper alloy early medieval (early Anglo-Saxon) flat annular brooch. Slightly less than 1/4 of the brooch survives. The hoop is D-shaped in cross-section with a slightly rounded outer face. No decoration is evident, although the surface is heavily corroded. The edge of a round pin hole can be seen in the break at one side. A silvery surface patina is visible in places on both faces. Penn and Brugmann (2007) place annular brooches with round pin holes within their phases FA2b (c.AD 500-c.AD 530/550) with some possible use either side of this. Length: 31.86mm,…

Each of it's outer corners is missing with the inner edges of small circular attachment holes visible within the breaks. A faint lines of incised triangles is visible along the left edge of the outer face, while the other edge is too damaged for this to be visible. A fragment of a copper alloy terminal or head from a cross-staff of later early medieval or Norman date. Only a small section of one face survives. This has an openwork lattice-like design formed from two adjoining open lozenge-shapes with parts of a further two connected to one side. Small pellets protrude from the outer face where the corners of each lozenge meet. A complete copper alloy buckle with separate plate of probable early medieval (early Anglo-Saxon) date. The frame is oval-shaped with a straight strap bar and a curved outer side. The plate is formed from a single rectangular strip of sheet metal with a rectangular slot cut into its centre where it is wrapped around the strap bar of the frame producing a slot where a simple copper alloy pin remains in situ. A complete copper alloy strap fitting of probable early medieval (Anglo-Saxon) date. It consists of two oval loops attached together in a figure of eight shape. It survives in fine condition with a green patina. Figure of eight shaped fittings are common Anglo-Saxon ancillary harness fittings, holding the reins in place (Fern 2005, 62, fig.5.2), but this simple form was also used in other periods and is likely to have had various functions.
