Complete Early-Medieval gilded copper alloy 'axe-shaped' mount, probably from horse harness. The mount is trapezoidal in shape; the longest side curves outwards slightly, whilst the other three sides curve inwards. The reverse of the mount is flat and covered with iron corrosion. The outer face of the mount has engraved decoration, the lines of which are gilded.
Helen Geake (pers. comm.), the Scheme's Medieval and Post-Medieval Finds Advisor, comments that the decoration appears to be Style I rather than the Style II common on this type of mount. She notes that the design is 'entir…
