It consists of a flat triangular shaped plate which has a flat upper edge with a large, centrally placed, circular hole just below. Halfway down this plate there is a step across the object at an angle, suggesting this is an old break and would have formed a second triangular plate to hold the belt/strap. Its upper half has a spilt end to house the strap and this is damaged. Below that the object has slightly rounded sides and it then tapers in width and becomes thicker, terminating in a possible animal head terminal? this is now extremely worn. The object is probably a Thomas class B1 or B2.

Early medieval copper alloy strap end, 40mm long, 6mm wide, 3mm thick. The object has a rectangular form and cross section. It begins with an elongated stylized animal head, with very large rounded ears. Above this the object tapers outwards in width slightly and is plain but has a bevelled edge running most of its length. This terminates at a slightly wider, rectangular shaped terminal, c.10mm long, which is split into two parts to take the strap. The object is damaged here with the rivet holes and upper edge missing. The object fits Thomas class B2, dating it to 850-1100.
