At the junction of the base of the head and the shank there is a slight collar, from which protrudes the fragmentary shank. The shank is circular in section, and the break of it is not too recent. The surface of the pin head has a well-developed dark green patina. It measures 15.47mm long, 10.47mm wide, 10.43mm thick and weighs 3.39g.

An Early Medieval (AD c.700-900) copper alloy pin: The pin head is globular with a single collar beneath, from which the integral pin shaft protrudes. The shaft is incomplete and the terminal is broken, but not too recently. The shaft is bent at the mid point at approximately 130 º. The pinhead has a well developed mid brown patina, and there are traces of this patina on the shaft, otherwise the shaft has a dark green patina. The pin measures 42.93mm long from the head to the shaft terminal, 9.61mm diameter across the head and weighs 4.36g.

Early Medieval (10th to 11th century possibly) possible pin fragment. The copper alloy pin has a rectangular sectioned head, which is rectangular in profile as well. The lower portion of the head has a slightly waisted section as decoration. The shaft of the pin is slightly narrowed, square in section and has a broken terminal. The break is slightly stepped and is obliquely angled, but is covered by the same mid green patina that covered the surface of the pin. Incomplete possible early medieval pin. The shaft is circular in section and broken off towards the tip end. It is bent sharply back on itself slightly more than halfway along the surviving length. Two clear transverse lines have been incised on the shaft below the pinhead, and nicks below these may be remains of attempts at further lines.

A copper alloy possible pin: The pin head is a flat sub heart shape with one side being slightly straighter than the other. The lower tip develops into a wide, and thickened collar and the integral shaft immediately below the collar is decorated with five transverse ridges. The shaft, which is oval in section then tapers to a blunt point. The shaft is bent forming an 'L' shape altogether. The surface of the pin is a red/brown colour with traces of a mid green patina. It measures 37.65mm long, 14.8mm wide, and 4.4mm thick. It weighs 3.5g.

The break is not quite recent. The pin has a well developed mid green patina. The pin measures 14.53mm long, 6.71mm diameter. It weighs 1.2g.
The pin dates to the Early Medieval period and Geake (Geake, H. 2001 Finds Recording Guide unpublished) comments that this type of pin dates to the Middle Early Medieval period, AD c.700-900.

The object is an Early Medieval pin head. In the ‘Finds Recording Guide’ by Helen Geake, the date is narrowed down to the middle Anglo-Saxon period.
The pin is made from cast copper alloy. The pin head is a polyhedral cuboid with each face (with the exception of the upwards facing surface) have a low-relief ring and dot as decoration. Below the pin head there is a collar from beneath which the integral pin shaft. The shaft is fragmentary and is slightly bent. The shaft is broken at the terminal and it is not a recent break.
