An early-medieval copper alloy brooch dating to the late 5th or early 6th century. Only the headplate and upper bow survive; these may indicate the brooch is of the 'small long' type. The headplate is rectangular and is decorated with a recessed border containing a row of moulded pellets. A circular hole is located at each angle. The upper bow has a pair of moulded transverse grooves; the bow is incomplete thereafter. The back of the brooch has two copper alloy pierced lugs with an iron axis bar between them. A cast copper alloy sword pommel of Late Early-Medieval or Medieval date, likely 11th or 12th century. The pommel is oval in plan and plano-convex in profile. The apex is missing, as is the upper part of one of the large side faces. This face bears an openwork design comprising at least two sub-oval apertures. The damage suffered by the apex makes it difficult to determine the original openwork design; however, it is possible that it picks out a crouching beast or similar motif. Feint incised or moulded lines also appear to suggest a beast though the surface is very worn. Th…
