Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL

Probable clasp-half from a wrist-clasp of Hines's Form B20, almost certainly a catchpiece. The entire clasp is covered with a thick copper alloy corrosion product. 34.56 mm long and 34.46 mm wide, it consists of a plate and flat 'bar' cast in one piece. The bar is at the front edge, and is barely thicker than the rest of the clasp-half. The bar is very corroded, however it appears to have a series of linear decorations. The bar is divided from the plate by a double longitudinal groove. The plate has no decoration, but has a cut-out rear edge forming a rounded lobe at one end which is…

Probable copper alloy lid from an Anglo-Saxon workbox. The lid is circular thin sheet of copper alloy with a central hole, containing a suspension loop. The loop consists of a single oval strip of copper alloy looped over at the top, threaded through the hole and then splayed on the reverse to secure it to the lid. Attached to the suspension loop is another small strip of copper alloy looped through the suspension loop, perhaps forming the first link in a chain. There is a further hole to either side of the central hole although it is not certain whether these are areas of damage. …
