Record ID: DENO-858F33
Object type: SPINDLE WHORL
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A lead early medieval spindle whorl (c. 500 - 1100). The spindle whorl is circular in shape and plano-convex in cross section. One face is decorated with a circular ridge running parallel to the central perforation, with evenly spaced ridges radiating out from the perforation. The shape of the spindle whorl is similar to Walton Rodgers form A1 suggesting it is from the early medieval period, however the inclusion of decoration on one face may indicate a slightly later date within the period. Diameter 27.1mm, internal diameter 8.7mm, thickness 6.7mm and weight 20.43g.
