An Early medieval to Medieval copper alloy bit link probably dating to c. AD 1000-1100. The fitting consists of a bar of copper alloy, D-shaped in cross section, terminating in a plain oval loop on either end, the slightly smaller of the two preceded by a thick boss or collar, also D-shaped in cross section. The interior edges of the reverse of the loops are bevelled, the smaller loop shows considerable wear and the perforation of the larger loop is flanked by three grooves, positioned at right angles.
Dimensions: length 49.1mm; width 19.2mm; thickness 6.9mm; weight 13.68g.

Description: An incomplete silver zoomorphic terminal, probably a strap end. The object is cast, moulded in high relief into a three-dimensional representation of an animal's head, with additional details engraved into the surface. The animal has pronounced rounded ears in front of which are a pair bulging hemispherical eyes, accentuated by a deeply engraved groove and separated by a small rectangular boss. A worn late early-medieval copper-alloy strap-end of Thomas's Class E, Type 5, culturally Carolingian (c. 10th century).
The strap-end is tongue shaped, with a recessed attachment end with two circular perforations, and terminating in a broad curve at the other end. The recessed step at the attachment end is on the reverse, with a 'ledge' below it; the strap-end thins from this point towards the terminal, attaining a constant thickness after a gradual thinning. A late early-medieval copper-alloy openwork stirrup-strap mount, dating to c. AD 1000-1100. The mount is broadly sub-triangular, 50.1 mm long and 30.3 mm wide at the maximum, with a rounded apex flanked by two extremely abraded knops. Just below the mid-point the plate of the mount narrows into a waist, 25.0 mm wide, with a small semicircular depression on each side. The mount is generally flat, c. 2.1 mm thick, but thicknening at the centre into a raised boss 3.4 mm thick, although due to its highly abraded surface little decoration is visible.
