Copper-alloy and enamel cloisonné disc brooch dating to the later Early Medieval period, c. AD 900 - 1100). The brooch consists of a flat backplate with seven evenly spaced circular shaped knops around the circumference. The upper surface of the knops shows that there is a circular depression in the centre of each, which would contain enamel setting, though none remains. Cast copper-alloy engraved sword pommel or boss of Early Medieval date. The item is solid. The item is semi-circular in shape and rectangular in section. There is a slight point at the apex of the curved edge, giving the item a sub-triangular form. There is engraved on both faces, as well as along the curved edge, which is 10.1mm in width. The engraved designs on the faces are difficult to decipher, and one face in particular is badly iron-stained. A slim gold band, flat in cross-section, bent into a U-shape with both ends broken. May have been a ring when complete, or part of some other item of jewellery. Since the broken ends don’t match it is likely that a part is missing. Likely Early Medieval to Medieval in date. Dimensions: Diameter 24.1x19.7mm, width 4.5mm, thickness 0.9mm, stretched length c.60mm, weight 2.3g Discussion: Since the object is incomple…

The surface is raised in places and could show evidence of moulded decoration, though no clear distinct features remain. The underside appears undecorated. There is a bend in the piece as it tapers towards the narrower end. The narrower end also forms a slight hook. It is unknown wheth…

Copper-alloy goad from a prick spur, of late early-medieval date (11th century). The item is sub-cylindrical and hollow, with a flat underside. The entire length of the cylindrical shaft contains iron, suggesting the item had an iron core with an copper-alloy outer surface. One end is broken, with only a small fragment of edge surviving. The rest of the iron spur is missing. The other end has moulded relief decoration in the shape of an Urnes-style animal. Corrosion has made it hard to read, but on clearer examples (notably WILT-E1CDD0) the motif is clearly a beast's head with bulg…
