Complete copper-alloy stirrup strap mount of Williams' Class A type 7. Dating to c. 11th-12th centuries. The mount is pentagonal in shape with slightly flaring longer edges. Much of the face decoration is illegible but the motif is likely to reflect something similar to that of known type 7 designs, and could be a central tree. It has a length of 52.4mm. The width is 33.6mm. There are three rivet holes (one at the centre top at 3mm diameter and two at the bottom edge at 2.8mm diameter), and two decorative holes at either edge roughly at the centre of the mount, both between 4.0 …

There are three vertical grooves corresponding with the position of the three knops or 'toes' that run from the knops to the transverse ridge. Above the transverse ridge two grooves continue to e…

A complete cast copper alloy stirrup strap mount dating to c. 1000 - 1100 AD. The item is subtriangular, and has an angled flange rinning the length of the bottom of te strap mount. There is one rivet hole present in the centre of this flange. The apex terminal is composed of a zoomorphic projection, likely of an animal's head, with a single rivet hole in the slightly flattened plate at the top. According to Williams (1997) this strap mount is of Class A, type 6 - cf. Williams, 1997 nos 102 - 113. It is a realtively squat, broad shouldered strap mount, and like others in the type, …
