Middle to late early-medieval object, possibly the handle from an implement, with runic inscription, dating to the period c. AD 700 - 1000. The terminal is slightly flaring, with two pairs of crescentic notches cut into the long edges. The boss exhibits engraved decoration in the form of an interlace quatrefoil (interlace is disrupted by a crack) surrounded by an engraved line border. The remainder of the object …

Description: Fragment of punched gold sheet, comprising a flat, pointed oval piece with a jagged transverse break at either end. One face is decorated all over with punched annulets, and the other side is undecorated. Both faces are heavily scratched. Dimensions: Length: 19mm, maximum width: 12mm, minimum width: 4.2mm, thickness: 1mm, weight: 1.2g. Discussion: This fragment is of uncertain function, but feasibly could be from the bezel of an early medieval gold finger-ring. Sheet metal finger-rings with wide bezels decorated with punches are typical of the ninth to tenth centuries in…

Fragment of sheet copper alloy strip of uncertain date and function. The strip is slightly curved and broken at either end on the short edges. One face exhibits three engraved double chevrons with an engraved groove running along one long edge. Both long edges appear to be original and intact except for some minor chips, probably caused post-depositionally. Due to the size and shape of the fragment it is nto possible to posit a function, however, the patina would suggest some antiquity. A date range spanning the Early Saxon to medieval period is suggested.
