Description: Late Anglo-Saxon strap-end, perhaps re-purposed into an object of uncertain function. The wider end has been cut straight across and filed down to produce a smoothly rounded edge. Small areas of the edge are missing around the base, but the object is otherwise complete. It is described with the straight edge held uppermost. A narrow reserved strip runs across the wide straight edge; the rest of the front is covered with engraving around symmetrical plant decoration in counter-relief. The effect is that of a flower, with a stem which springs from a rosette of simple p…

Over all is a series of randomly applied punched annulets. Probably of Thomas Class E, Type uncertain. Similar in form to NMS-E11836 & NMS-570BDA.

Late Saxon strap end of Thomas (2003) Class B, Type 1 dating to the period c. AD 750 - 1100. It exhibits a wedge shaped split end with a single iron rivet. The shaft tapers into a moulded zoomorphic consisting of a stylised animal head with rounded ears, each drilled with a blind hole and oval eyes moulded in relief. Unusually, this does not form the terminal, rather the muzzle then tapers in width and thickness into a rectangular projection. This may have been a casting fault. See: Thomas, G, 2003, p. 4.

Fragment from a Late Saxon to medieval strap end of Thomas Class E Type 1 dating to the period c. AD 1000 - 1100. It exhibits Winchester style openwork decoration in the form of a series of simplified leaves which branch from a central stem and twist outwards. All edges terminate in worn breaks. This style of decoration derives from the "inhabited plant-scroll" motif seen in contemporary illuminated manuscripts. See: Thomas, G, 2004, p. 3, nos. 22 - 24. Description: An incomplete silver strap-end of late Anglo-Saxon date. The remains comprise a small portion of the body and the zoomorphic terminal, with a worn break at the top. Description: Fragment of silver sheet, of unidentified function. The fragment is expanded in the centre and tapers to a worn transverse old break at either end. On one side there is an engraved line border along each long edge. There are additional marks in the centre but the object's worn appearance makes it difficult to determine whether these are due to damage or are the degraded remains of a punched design. The other side appears to be undecorated, but is again, heavily worn. Discussion: It is not possible to identify the fragment with certainty. Its size and form superficial…
