Description: Fragment of silver sheet, of unidentified function. The fragment is expanded in the centre and tapers to a worn transverse old break at either end. On one side there is an engraved line border along each long edge. There are additional marks in the centre but the object's worn appearance makes it difficult to determine whether these are due to damage or are the degraded remains of a punched design. The other side appears to be undecorated, but is again, heavily worn. Discussion: It is not possible to identify the fragment with certainty. Its size and form superficial…

Lower part of a cast copper-alloy escutcheon (mount) from an early-medieval hanging bowl. Originally identified as a double-loop buckle frame, it is an openwork oval shape, with an outer frame curving around the long side of the oval, and a central bar. Both frame and bar are trapezoidal in cross-section (4.4 x 3.6mm for the frame and 4 x 3.1mm for the bar), with the narrower flat top decorated with a central groove on both elements. Where they join, there is a trefoil knop consisting of three rounded lobes; this is the same thickness as the rest of the mount. Any decoration here is ha…
