An incomplete set of copper-alloy tweezers of probable Early-Medieval date (AD 500-800). The arms are formed from one sheet of rectangular sectioned copper-alloy. One of the arms flares out to a triangular expanded end, the other end terminates in an old transverse break.
Tweezers such as this were in use from the Roman through Medieval periods. The form of the current example are indicative of an earlier rather than later date, possibly of Anglo-Saxon date although a slightly earlier Roman date cannot be ruled out entirely.

Incomplete copper-alloy Tweezers of Early-Medieval date (AD 650-1066). The object is triangular in plan and flat in section with a slight recurved lower end. There is a transverse break resulting in the loss of the second arm.
The object is decorated on the triangular plate with a punched ring and dot motif. A ring and dot is situated in each of the lower two corners with three situated centrally running longitudinally down the plate. The upper end of the plate has two incised transverse lines. There are traces of a linear border on the outer edges of the shaft.

Tweezers such as this were in use from the Roman through Medieval periods. The form of the current example are indicative of an earlier rather than later date, possibly of Anglo-Saxon date although a slightly earlier Roman date cannot be ruled out entirely.
