Early-Medieval silver mid-late Secondary Phase Series QIIA (Type 64) sceat dating to AD 725 to 745. Bird / walking beast design in the more angular style with trinquetra (trinity knot). Probably minted in East or Middle Anglian area. North (1994:66) no. 136, Plate 1 no.62. Abramson (2006:43) Q360. Traces of green corrosion are visible on the reverse. Analysis of one example showed they were only 50% silver (Grierson and Blackburn 1986:179-180).

Early Medieval silver sceat, Series H (Type 49, Metcalf 1c, pecking bird going right / Woden head surrounded by roundels (also described as shield with face)), c.AD 720-745, North (1993:64) no. 103, Metcalf variety 1c. See HAMP-6A4044, EMC 2008.0174 and 2008.0175 for the same varient with three pellets below chin. bout 5% of the flan is missing due to a break down one side. The coin appears base silver with some copper corrosion but it is clear in the break that it is not silver plated on copper but the same composition all the way through.

The coin appears base silver with some copper corrosion but it is clear in the break that it is not silver plated on copper but the same composition all the way through.

Treasure case 2012 T495: Acquired by Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum Early Medieval silver sceat, Series B1b (type 27b, diademed bust / bird on cross), c. 685-695 AD, North (1994: 66) no.126, similar to Coin Register from British Numismatic Journal 66 (1996), no. 67 and EMC 1990.5005. Pierced near the edge at 12 o'clock (on obverse and reverse). Another sceat was found in the same area and if also a primary or intermediate type these may be submitted as potential treasure.
