A complete copper-alloy gilded mount of Early-medieval date. The mount is in two fragments, it is circular in plan and broadly rectangular in cross section. The front face of the mount is decorated with a central knop surrounded by a circumferential groove and a raised circumferential band. A Late Early Medieval (1000-1100) simple zoomorphic stirrup terminal of Williams Group 4 (1997), measuring 34.33mm in length, max.11.43mm wide and 12.65mm deep. It weighs 12.05g and is cast copper alloy with traces of lead in the hollow reverse. The strap fitting is in the form of a cross, with a c.2.2-2.6mm diameter rivet hole at the end of each arm (c.2mm thick). The centre of the fitting is domed to the front (slightly faceted) and topped with a knop. To the reverse this section is concave. Much of the original patina is missing.

Surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated an approximate silver content for the brooch of 93%, the rest being copper, gold and lead. The shattered gem was identified by Raman spectroscopy as garnet. The brooch is mercury gilded with traces of niello decoration and weighs 4.28 grams. An incomplete Late Early-Medieval (1000-1100) copper alloy stirrup strap-mount of Williams' Class A Type 12, openwork version. It is missing most of the loop at the apex and part of the angled flange, both broken across the piercing. The diamond-shaped mount features eight circular bosses positioned centrally and at the junctions of cross and frame.
