A fragment of an early medieval convex-sided copper-alloy strap end of Thomas' Class A (probably A1) dating to the 9th century AD. Ref: Thomas 2003: 2-4. The surviving fragment of the strap end consists of a lower part of the central panel and a truncated zoomorphic terminal. This animal head terminal forms approximately 75% of the remaining fragment with two curving sub-oval ears and an eye visible. The central panel above contains a small amount of visible incised decoration, possibly in the form of an animal head in the Trewhiddle style. The reverse of the strap end appears to b…

A truncated and worn copper-alloy, early medieval (Anglo-Saxon) strap end, Thomas Class A1 with Trewhiddle-style decoration although this is too worn to discern individual elements, c.AD 800-900. The attachment end, with likely rivet holes, no longer survives but the rest is complete.
