An incomplete cast copper alloy disc / plate brooch, probably of Anglo-Saxon date (7th to 9th Centuries AD). Less than 25% of the brooch is present, and consists of a small rim section of a plate style brooch. Part of the spring is present on the back of the fragment. The brooch fragment is irregular in plan and section. From the small section, it is possible to estimate the original rim diameter as 4 cm, with 17% present. It consists of a border, with a faint two strand guilloche (interlaced ropework) design. Each strand is double ply (split into two). The border area app…

Ansate brooch of Weetch's type IV, made from copper alloy and dating to the 8th or 9th century AD. The brooch consists of two sub-square terminals, joined together by a slightly domed rectangular central bow. The bow has a broad recessed groove running its full length, with a ridge to either side. Each terminal has two similar broad grooves running transversely, each with a ridge at each side, so there is a single ridge at each end of the terminal and two parallel ridges in the centre. No traces of enamel or other inlay are present in any of the grooves. The back of the brooch i…

A fragment of a cast copper alloy penannular brooch, probably dating to the sub-Roman, early Medieval period (5th to 7th Centuries AD). Approximately 25% of the brooch is present and consists of one terminal and part of the hoop. The other terminal, pin and remaining part of the hoop are missing, presumably lost in antiquity. The break present on the hoop contains soil and is not recent in nature. The hoop has a sub square cross section. The underside of the brooch is plain, but the upper surface exhibits a series of small V-shaped notches along the edge of the hoop toward…

A bodysherd of a handmade ceramic vessel. The sherd is 10.06mm thick and weighs 25.9g. It is 56.20mm long and 46.28mm wide. The sherd consists of a bodysherd, in a dark micaeous rich fabric, with an organic temper. The exterior of the sherd has two rows of decoration. The top row consists of three (3) circular wheel stamps with a central cross, splitting the circle into four approximately equal sized quadrants.
