A contemporary plated copper-alloy imitation of a early-medieval silver early penny (sceat) of Secondary Phase Series J (type 85; Naismith Series Jb) dating to cAD 710-25, mint: Humber region (probably Northumbria). Refs: Naismith 2017: table 4, p.105; Gannon 2013: pl 21 nos 474-77, p115-7.
The coin shows green copper corrosion products on parts of its surface, and in places the silver wash is damaged showing a copper-alloy core beneath. Such contemporary imitations are not uncommon for this type.
