Copper alloy strap end. Cast strap end of elongated oval form with its broader end split and the other bearing a knop or terminal derived from a beast head, Thomas Class A Type 2. The field afforded by the display face bears a dense complex of incised floral palmate motifs, usually trilobate, with several thin coils of black material, possibly niello, as relicts of a formerly more extensive scheme of inlaid decoration, and with a curl or spiral motif at the broad end. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 800-850.
