A cast copper alloy stirrup strap mount. A Williams Class A type 12 openwork mount. A lozenge shaped mount with a flat base and the apex broken off. There is a central diagonal cross leaving four lozenge shaped apertures. At each junction of the cross and frame and at the centre of the cross is a projecting, sub-circular boss (seven in total) The frame and cross are decorated with a (slightly irregularly applied) double band of punched triangles outline the apertures. This case concerns four objects, found over two days in June 2007 by Mr Alan Maidment whilst metal detecting with permission on pasture at Bradford Peverell, Dorset. The four objects are as follows:

A probable lead brooch of Weetch type 25.B. A cast sub-circular brooch with a hollow back. The conves front is decorated with concentric grooves, ribs and bands of transverse lines and grooves. There is a projecting "arm" of uncertain function which tapers and is bent back on itself. The decoration contunues for part of the length of this element and the casting line along its whole length. Cast copper alloy zoomorphic strap-end. A tapering rectilinear strap end with a split plate at the attachment end. There are two rivet holes on each of the two sides of the split plate, all of which retain traces of the circular rivets.. The strap end tapers to a rounded end. The end is in the shape of a small animal head with its snout at the terminal , two slight recesses for the eyes, a brow ridge and two large oval rears, swept back along the strap-end. Copper alloy oval strap end with silver inlay decoration. A very worn strap end with a tapered zoomorphic terminal and silver decoration on the plate. The terminal is very worn, but traces of slight recesses for the eyes can be seen . It is thickened from the body of the strap end which is thin and flat. The front is decorated with two (possibly zoomorphic) tulip- shaped objects which may be snakes' heads. These have narrowed, curving tails, one of which loops back on itself. An Early Medieval zoomorphic stirrup terminal dating to the 11th century. A cast copper alloy, hollow backed terminal with a supporting ledge. It is in the form of a beast's head with large ears, protruding eyes and a snub-nosed muzzle. the snout has two small nostrils delineated. The muzzle is decorated with curving tendrils. An incomplete, cast copper alloy brooch. An ansate brooch with sub-circular, flat terminals and an arched central bow. Each terminal is decorated with a crudely incised cross. The terminal behind which the catchplate for the missing pin would have been attached has a small, rectangular hole pierced to one side. This may have been part of a mend to replace the catchplate after it was lost. At the back of the other terminal are the two pierced lugs which housed the missing axis bar for the pin. Late Saxon cast, copper alloy stirrup terminal. Of zoomorphic design, this terminal would have completely enclosed the diagonal arms at the lower part of a sturrup. It is in the form of a crested animal head which is curled around so that it faces "up the stirrup". An incomplete small zoomorphic strap-end made from copper alloy with silver inlay. It has a short split attachment end, missing the front part; the back part is thin and has the remnants of two circular attachment holes, one at each corner.
