A small copper alloy mount. It is long and narrow with a flat rear and irregular D-shaped cross section. It has two opposing zoomorphic animal heads, pointing away from one another and each slightly hollowed at the rear of the object.. One head forms the terminal of the object and is raised in profile with a pointed snout, indentations for the eyes, a raised brow ridge and rounded ears. The head at the opposite end has its mouth open and from it projects a squared loop with a central circular projection. There is a transverse collar between thehead and the loop. A small lozengiform silver mount with zoomorphic interlace decoration. The decoration is asymmetrical and comprises two overlapping dog-like beasts, in profile, with their heads at the midpoint of the long axis, facing in different directions. The beasts have spotted hides. The heads, necks and upper forelimbs are well-defined on each, but then the bodies taper to a narrow band before expanding into their more stylised hindquarters at either end of the lozenge. The limbs also taper into narrow bands, which form a complex interlace pattern. The beasts differ from each other in terms of…

A fragment of an openwork mount. Decorated in the Urnes style. The decoration comproses a beast's head terminal with an open mouth and pellet eyes (no ears), a serpentine body and interlacing tendrils. There are several circular openwork apertures. The back is flat. The break crosses four openwork apertures. David Williams (pers.com) has commented that this is coarser in its execution than examples of similar mounts from East Anglia. Copper alloy mount or possible pin head. Circular with a central circular hole and silver inlay decoration. The mount is domed around the central hole, making it correspondingly hollow at the back. The decoration is in three main sections, comprising two panels of chip-carved interlace, separated by a narrow (apparently undecortated) panel radiating from the centre to the edge, and a third area containing triple strand decoration, probably a beast. There is an undecorated framing band around the outer edge. The decoration continues over the domed area until a raised, plaine ring which f…

Cast copper alloy mount with Urnes style decoration. The mount is sub-rectangular (rounded ends) and convex at the front. The back is concave. The decoration is a complex openwork interlace design in Urnes style, of a sinuous beast intertwined with finer vines and fronds inside a thin framing band. The means of attachment for this mount is unclear, but is is likely that some of the openwork holes once containe rivets, There is a break in one hole in the middle of one long side and bending at the edge of the frame in a hole directly opposite on the other long side suggesting that these…

Probable book or casket mount. An incomplete openwork rectangular plate with zoomorphic design. On three sides is a framing band with a rounded lobe halfway along the longest side. This has an attachment hole containing the remains of an iron fixing. Inside the frame is an openwork design of two beasts with three-clawed feet and long tails. They are arranged in reflection of each other, each one raising a front paw and with its tail raised over its back. They both have a projection from their backs joining their tails, possibly representing wings? However, one has its head facing forw…

Copper alloy and enamel disc cut down from a larger object. Sub-circular disc with fields of champlevé enamel in opaque yellow. It has six discrete elements which form a knot style design against a paler, pinkish enamel background (this may have originally been red). There is a small attachment hole near the edge. The back is flat and undecorated. Susan Youngs reports that: "Enamelling requires an edge to the field when the piece is fired: this disc has been cut down in antiquity and possibly pierced for suspension or by a rivet for fixed attachment. The use of angular fields and c…
