A copper alloy strap end of Thomas Class B, Type 13. The strap end is of tapering form with a wide, flared, split attachment end. The rear plates of the split end are broken at one corner. It is likely that there was a hole in each corner of the attachment end, but only one remains and retains a separate rivet. There is also a central, circular hole, probably for attachment purposes, suggesting the strap end may have been repaired at sometime. At the base of the split plate on the front of the object is a transverse ridge below which extends the solid, tapering part of the strap end…

A stirrup strap-mount. A sub-triangular mount. The hanging loop at the apex is broken. At the base of the rear of the mount is a right-angled flange, above which are two attachment holes which contain the corroded remains of iron rivets. The moulded decoration on the front face is of a griffin, facing left, one front foot raised and its beaked head flung back and pointing towards the apex. Above the animal's head is a hole which may have been made later to allow re-attachment of the mount after the top loop was broken. Similar to Williams Class A, Type 11A, but with a griffin rather …

Copper alloy and enamel disc cut down from a larger object. Sub-circular disc with fields of champlevé enamel in opaque yellow. It has six discrete elements which form a knot style design against a paler, pinkish enamel background (this may have originally been red). There is a small attachment hole near the edge. The back is flat and undecorated. Susan Youngs reports that: "Enamelling requires an edge to the field when the piece is fired: this disc has been cut down in antiquity and possibly pierced for suspension or by a rivet for fixed attachment. An early medieval silver early penny (sceat) of Primary Phase Series BX or BI dating to c.AD675-690. Refs: Metcalf 1993: p.96-8; Naismith 2017: cf. no.44 (pl. 2). The identification above is based on the description in the numismatic data section. Another bird-on-cross type is the later Series J (type 85) although this is in a different style which does not appear to correlate to this coin find. Original record description: 'Bird on cross/bust - circa AD 680 - 750
