Copper alloy socketed axe-head. Cast copper alloy axe-head with a crescentic cutting edge, a plain body with slightly concave upper and lower sides and a sub-rectangular socket measuring 32.7mm in height and 28.4mm in width [externally]. A single loop of length 23.5mm is set on one side on the mould line at a distance of 9.5mm from the socket. Six triangular-section fragments of pale buff and desiccated wood were presented along with the object together with smaller splinters and dust, with slight evidence of green staining, and are regarded by the finder as relict fragments of a woode…

A section of a copper alloy axehead. It is triangular in section, being a blunt point on one side, and crescent shaped, but not symmetrical across its break, being more pointed at one end than the other. The blade is not facetted. There is some loss of material from the faces. Along the broken face there is a suggestion that it might have been hollow and therefore a section of socketed axehead, but this is not definitive. Dimensions: It is 67mm long, 21mm wide and 11.5mm thick. It weigh 56.83g

Object is an incomplete, small, copper alloy flat axehead, probably dating from the Early Bronze Age period (c. BC 2350 - c. BC 2050). The axe is broadly rectangular in plan with a slightly splayed crescentric blade. The sides of the axe gently taper outwards with a shallow curve, from the rounded butt to the blade. The surfaces are flat and do not show any signs of side flanges. The axehead has suffered significant loss from corrosion on all surfaces, and is pitmarked and edges worn and rounded. It has an overall browny red and green patina. There are several…

A near-complete possible Bronze Age to Roman cast copper alloy miniature object, an axehead, c.1900 BC-AD 100. The object is axehead-shaped; sub-triangular with the corners of the widest end (possibly the axe cutting edge) reduced to a curve, with the opposite end terminating in an old break. The form is reminiscent of a miniature early Bronze Age flat axe. The corrosion and patination with the dark green colour suggests an early date. However, the wear makes it impossible to be certain that the edges are not broken, so it could be an undiagnostic fragment of a larger incomp…
