Bronze Age Gold Strip (possibly a bead) from Much Wenlock - Shropshire Treasure Case: 2017 T42 A small rectangular strip of folded gold with one decorated surface. The object was folded upon discovery and subsequently opened up by the finder. One edge of the strip is complete having been cut regularly with a slightly thickened rim while the other edge of the strip has been torn resulting in a sharp undulating edge. A small amber bead dating to the Bronze Age, (2350-801BC). The object is circular in plan and sub-oval in cross-section. It is of varying thickness with a rough thickness. The object has a conical perforation which has been drilled from one side. The perforation has an internal diameter of 3.27mm on one face which tapers down to 1.99mm on the opposite face. The surface is rough and uneven. It is light orange-yellow in colour due to oxidation. This piece of amber would have originated in Poland.

A cast copper alloy bead dating from the Bronze Age to the Roman period. It is circular in plan and biconical, measuring 17.59mm in diameter and 6.93mm thick. The internal perforation measures 5.64mm in diameter. The object has been drilled from each side. The outer face is decorated with a central circumferential moulding flanked by four grooves. A small rectangular strip of folded gold with one decorated surface. The edges of the strip appear to have been cut rather than broken, suggesting that the object is complete. The strip has been folded almost exactly in half (although the two ends do not meet) with the decorated side outermost. The decoration consists of 13 fine, straight, 'incised' grooves. Gold ornament, probably a bead. The thin sheet of gold had been rolled into a cylindrical shape but has now been unfortunately crushed. It is decorated with sixteen transverse embossed grooves. There is a brown substance, probably soil, inside the crushed ornament. The probable bead is very rare for Britain and Ireland though a necklace of similar beads from Ireland is in the British Museum (BM 1853,0926.2). Basalt bead dating from the Bronze Age to the Roman period. It is oval in plan and in cross-section. A circular perforation runs through the length of the object. It is narrow at one end, 3.83mm, and much wider at the other,6.82mm. The bead is decorated with incised lines which run around the object horizontally. It has a flat bottom and a slightly raised oval at the top. It has a smooth black patina.
