Object type: SPEARHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE

Fragment of a copper alloy spear head dating from the Middle to late Bronze Age, about 1550 - 800 BC. The surviving fragment comprises the tip and partial length of blade. Both wings are complete from the tip to approximately half way down the blade. From this point both wings are abraded and damaged. In section the spear is lozenge. It has a narrow blade measuring 44mm in length and 11mm in width. The spear has a dark brown patina with frequent surface pitting. The breaks are very worn and patinated suggesting it broke in antiquity.

A copper alloy awl of possible Bronze Age date. It is 48mm in length. The awl is rectangular in section for two thirds of its length, tapering from 5x4mm to a flat terminal. The opposite end is circular in section and tapers to a point. The awl has a dark brown-red patina often seen on Bronze Age and Iron Age metalwork in the region. Fragment of hollow cast copper alloy, possibly a miscast item of possible Bronze Age date. The object is rectangular in plan and appears to have been a hollow rectangle in section. Only one complete side and two incomplete sides survive. The object flares gently along its length, and also thickens to a triangular section at the widest end. The interior is covered with black soot and charcoal deposits much like is often seen on late medieval and post-medieval cooking pot legs. However, the exterior is smooth and has patches of mid brown patina as is commonly encountered on copper alloy …

Fragment of a copper alloy spear head dating from the Middle Bronze Age, about 1550 - 1250 BC. It has a narrow blade measuring 33mm in length and 12mm in width. The break is very worn and patinated suggesting it broke in antiquity.  Not enough of the spearhead has remained to be able to date this fragment to a more precise range, although the circular section, the angle of the blade, and the midrib extending to the to the tip suggest comparisons with spearheads in Davis (2017) Groups 6-11.

A looped and socketed copper alloy spear head dating from the Middle Bronze Age, about 1550 - 1250 BC. It seems to fit into Davis's Group 2 or Group 3 (2017). It has a triangular blade with ribs on each blade wing, and a prominent midrib, lozenge shaped in cross-section. The socket is circular in cross-section and the socket extends just into the base of the blade midrib. There is a side loop on each side of the socket, positioned very close to the end of the object, away from the blade. The spear has a smooth mid green with only slight pitting and corrosion. The spear head is 101…
