A late Neolithic or early Bronze Age shafthole implement dating to the period c.2100 - 1500 BC. The axe was originally elongated in plan, tapering from the central shafthole to either end. Bronze Age stone battle axe head. The stone is unfinished. It has been polished, however it has split at the end along what appears to be a natural fault in the stone. The haft hole is only drilled about three quaters of the way through. It therefore seems that the axe was discarded when it split part way through its production.
