Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast copper alloy 'moustache' shaped object, similar to BERK-C3E5A3, GLO-3F7F09, and NARC-2C32D7, though the general shape of this object is more linear and less crescent. The object consists of two lobes joined at the centre by a thinner section that may have been an attachment or mounting point. The lobes are striated to about half their length, the outer tapered section coming smoothly to a point. The centre of the object is partially hollow. The entire surface is covered in varying levels of verdigris. The nature of use for these objects is currently uncertain.

Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Staffordshire

A Bronze age spearhead of copper-alloy, covered in multiple different corrosion products. The surface is uneven due to differential areas of corrosion; there is an area of blue 101 mm from the base of the tang that may indicate contact with another material during the time the object has spent in the soil. The general form is feather shaped, with a long tang leading into a body that is lozenge shaped in cross section. This tapers slowly to a now rounded tip. The former blade edges are uneven and corroded. The entire surface is moderately friable; several flakes of verdigris detached …

Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Lancashire

An Early Bronze Age III - Middle Bronze Age I (1800-1500 BC) flanged axe head or axe shaped ingot, possibly water rolled, and unusual in its crudeness. Its uneven shape makes accurate measurement and labelling of areas difficult, but the thickest section is approximately 14mm at its widest pont, and the blade tip is an uneven 2-4 mm in fluctuation. The surface is pitted and appears to have delaminated; areas show different levels and kinds of corrosion, varying from predictable greens to a blueish tinge. The rear of the object is not bilaterally symmetrical but has a thumbprint-s…

A socketed cast spearhead, appearing to be of the Taunton phase of the Middle Bronze Age (1400-1250 BC). The main body is hollow, forming a socket for the insertion of a shaft, with two objects that resemble the loops of other phases but are unpierced at the sides. The blade is composed of two wings, emerging either side of the central body and having a concave lozenge-shaped cross section. Their widest point is 17mm before their rejoining of the body at the lower end. The very tip is broken off, and the end of the blade is bent at about 20 degrees from the vertical. The surface of th…

Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Cheshire West and Chester
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A flat axe head of the early Bronze Age (2500-1200 BC), possibly composed predominantly of copper as the surface discolouration is predominantly blackish with small green patches. Much of the body is pitted and corroded, but a clearly discernible edge and a possible bulge at the midpoint make evident the former outline. The overall body shape is flared trapezoidal, lozenge shaped when viewed from above. It is not symmetrical; the 'upper' flare is considerably larger than the lower one. No flanges are present. Widest point of blade end:- 41.66mm, thickest lateral measurement:-9…

An almost complete Late Bronze Age sword of cast copper-alloy, now in five segments and without its tip. The morphology is similar to that of continental swords, specifically the carp's tongue type, though with some less usual decorative features, produced in the Late Bronze Age c. 1000-900 BC. The blade is straight all the way to the end and has decorative ribbing on each face. There is discolouration at the end of the blade, possibly indicating the remains of a scabbard which has decayed in situ. The decoration is inconsistent and the ribbing is not the same quality cast into e…
