Two more fragments from a Bronze Age metal working hoard, found at the same site as the previously recorded ‘Great Canney Rapier Hoard’. These two finds amount to an addendum to this hoard (ESS-5DF6D2, 2016 T591). One fragment is lozenge shaped in cross section and is largely similar in shape and section to artefact number 12 in the original PAS record (ESS-5DF6D2). The blade tip of a bronze age axe blade. The item is broken and only the end or tip of the blade remains. It is made from cast copper alloy. The axe tip is sub-rectangular in shape, with the top and bottom edges of the axe widening slightly to form a sloghtly curved blade tip. The blade tip does not flare out and then back in on itself into the top and bottom edges, suggesting that the blade was a realtively plain and flat design. Cast copper alloy anvil of probable Bronze Age date, though possibly later. The item consists of a rectangular body, 41.9mm in length, 25.76mm in width and 18.76mm in thickness. The top edge of the body is faceted, with a ridge in the centre and two faces sloping down on either side. When viewed from the side, the body of the anvil is pentagonal in shape. There is a sub rectangular projection on the bottom edge of the body approx. 28.08mm long and 6.93mm thick. Fragment of a copper alloy axe of middle to late Bronze age date (c. 1500 to 1150 BC). The item is rectangular in shape. The butt and the flanged sides remain, whilst the majority of the axe blade is missing. The flanged sides of the axe fragment are parallel to the stop, and the upper and lower faces are concave, forming an 'H' shaped cross section. Fragment of a copper alloy socketed axe likely dating to the late Bronze age, c. 1000 - 800 BC. The fragment is 'C' shaped in cross section and represents a 'corner' piece of the socket from a Bronze Age axe head. There is a moulded ridge on the lip of the socket, as well as another moulded transverse ridge next to this. The item is possibly a copper-alloy Bronze Age (c. 1500 - 1150BC) small chisel or awl. The blade is square in cross section and tapers to a flat edge. One side of the blade tapers slightly more, making the edge on one side thinner and forming a slight concavity on this side. Lithic flake implement of probable Bronze Age date c. 2500 - 800BC. The implement is composed of dark grey flint with mottled light grey inclusions. The flake is irregularly shaped and was knapped from a larger core or nodule.
