Late Bronze Age copper alloy Cherwell variant Ewart Park sword dating to the period c. 900 - 800 BC. Octagonal-sectioned socketed handle with two rivet holes positioned on the long axis on each face, now filled with corossion product. Within the socket is a fragment of wood, traces of a white substance, possibly adhesive and a ring of corrosion product running around the mouth. Early - Middle Bronze Age flint plano-convex knife dating to the period c. 2350 - 1500 BC. Hard hammer struck tertiary flake. It exhibits four narrow negative flake scars on the dorsal face. The ventral surface is missing the blub of percussion and exhibits a series of closely spaced conchoidal ripple marks. The distal end has been retouched on both the dorsal and ventral face, with three flakes removed from each face. One mesal edge exhibits prssure flaked semi-invasive, scaled semi-abrupt retouch. Incomplete copper alloy barbed and tanged arrowhead of probable Middle - Late Bronze Age date (c. 1600 - 701 BC). One barb is missing and the other is incomplete due to old damage. The tang is slightly fluted on both faces, although the fluting is slightly asymmetrical between the two faces. The notches between the barbs and tang are slightly indented on one face. Both faces exhibit a central longitudinal mid-rib, giving a lozengiform cross-section. No further objects were recovered at the time of discovery, however, the finder states that in recent years the owners have had substantial amounts of topsoil added to level the site. Circumstances of Discovery: Hoard found during metal detecting 'on stubble', the top of the deposit recorded as being -38cm, and the bottom -50cm. All artefacts found at the above grid reference, however two groups of fragments were found in the 'general area' (Nos. 36-37, below). Description: A hoard of 37 copper alloy objects found during the course of metal detecting.
