A coarse flint scraper likely dating to the late Bronze Age or Iron age c.1000BC - 0BC . Description: The scraper was produced from a broken elongated ovoid primary flake (indicated by the substantial cortex remaining on the dorsal face) from a larger possibly naturally shattered flint (indicated by the multiple step and pitted like fractures on the part sof the edges). The flaking has left substantially conchoidal ripples on both sides of the flint and a substantial bulb of percussion on the ventral face, indicating hard hammer (stone on stone rather than antler, bone or padded …

Worn scraper, date unclear, but likely Late Bronze Age to Early Iron Age c. 1000-800 BC. Roughly D-shaped with break at the top left corner, this break likely to have occurred during antiquity. Dorsal side covered in dark grey and mottled light brown cortex, ventral clear mottled light brown, beige and dark grey flint. Short scaled semi abrupt and some crossed abrupt retouch around the circumference except on the bottom by the bulb of percussion and the break at the top (although seems likely retouch would have continued around the top and top left corner) Measurements: 64.31mm lon…

A coarse flint scraper likely dating to the late Bronze Age or Iron age c.1000BC - 0BC . Description: The scraper was produce from irregularly formed from a primary flake (indicated by the substantial cortex remaining on the dorsal face) knapped from a larger apparently naturally shattered flint (indicated by the multiple step like fractures on the top of the dorsal side). The ventral face has an area of invasive stepped variably angled retouch at the bottom (abutting the striking platform), as well as some fine retouch around the point perhaps creating a multi use tool. A probable later Bronze Age / early Iron age denticulate, c.1000-0BC. Description: The denticulate is irregularly shaped and formed from a utilised secondary flake, or early date to the final tool. The flake's later reuse is clear by the fact the majority of the flint surface is heavily patinated, while retouch and some flaking has removed the patination. The main shaping flaking of the flint is very subtle and produced by soft hammer technology. The bulb of percussion has been removed and the initial conchoidal fracturing is unclear. The retouch covers 3 sides and is short steep a…

The sides begin to curve inwards from the curved crescent blade-edge, flaring in section to a rectangle. The broken edges are heavily worn likely indicate breakage in antiquity although the variation in patination may indicate it happen while in the ground. The break across the body is irregular. A small group of Palstave axeheads found in close association likely dating to the the Middle Bronze Age period c.1400-1150 BC. 1) Palstave axehead. A complete slightly corroded copper-alloy palstave axehead. The flanges rise from the butt end, fusing to the stop bar at the maximum height above the septum - the profile of the septum appears to be U-shaped and rectangular in plan, one side has a raised rectangular dimple in the septum possibly indicating a casting flaw or error. The haft end leads to a triangular blade, which is rounded at the tips. Below the stop bar is a short ind…

One point is slightly longer than the others and each of the four faces is slightly indented. There are some scratches on the rounded end. Some awls may have been hafted in to a wooden or bone handle however this example was probably used in the hand without hafting as both ends of the awl are us…

A hoard of two cast copper alloy palstave axeheads. Description: 1. Palstave axehead. An incomplete, copper alloy, axehead in fair condition, with patches of corrosion visible. A probable Late Bronze Age hoard of 90 ingot fragments. Description:All ingot fragments have some soil attached which may affect their final weight. A green patina is present on most fragments due to the copper alloy corrosion (Nos. 1-81 and 86-90). The other fragments (Nos. 82-85) do not have a green patina, probably due to the presence of a higher tin percentage. A bevelled edge can be seen on some fragments while others have a softer, round edge.
