A complete copper-alloy annular bracelet/arm-ring probably of Bronze Age date. The bracelet, which has an internal diameter of 64.5mm, an external diameter of 81.8mm and a width of 16.6mm has a sub-triangular section with a flat inner side and rounded apex running around the centre of the outer side. The surfaces are heavily pitted and there is a crack at one point. The remaining original surface does not show any incised decoration however too much of the surface has been lost to definitively state whether it was decorated or not. Similar plain and incised (Liss-type) brac…

One thumbnail scraper made from a much larger flake. Almost circular with cortex covering the dorsal face apart from the around the edges. Very faint ripples on ventral face, direction of strike unclear. Dark gray-black flint. 27.4mm by 25.9mm varying in thickness form 10.4mm at one end to 6.2mm at other, 8.08 grams.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
One short knife formed on a flake. Stuck off the cortex which covers the proximal end. Shallow bulb on ventral face, the distal end is damaged to one side but maybe complete as there appears to be a small section of platform at that end, suggesting a short wide blade or flake. 45 degree parallel to semi-parallel long retouch down left edge of the dorsal face. Some scalar retouch at the proximal end of the right edge but the distal end of the right edge is lost to a break which has roughly removed the corner leaving damage and chipping on both faces. 37.8mm long, 18.2mm wide, 5.6mm thi…

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Small crude scraper made on a secondary flake. The flake has a large bulb of percussion on the ventral side. the striking platform is faceted but arises on the dorsal side suggest parallel removal of previous flakes. There is a small amount (c.2%) of cortex down the right side on the dorsal face but this edge is damaged from breaks; the form of the cortex suggests it was made from a flint pebble. There is retouch along the left edge of the dorsal face with a gap at the proximal end. The rotouch is scalar and semi-abrupt, short at both ends becoming more invasive towards the centre of …

Nineteen pieces of secondary and tertiary flint debitage, total weight 83 grams with the smallest weighing 0.3 grams and the largest piece 14.2 grams. The debitage suggests knapping from multi-platform cores. It is mostly downland flint with thick cortex on the secondary pieces. It varies from very translucent pale brown to dark grey with some mottled pieces.

Distal end of a Portland chert flake. There are short, shallow, scalar removals forming blunting retouch or damage along the left edge on the dorsal face and along the distal end of the left edge on the ventral face. The blunt point between them also has short scaler to parallel retouch creating a crude tool, probably an awl or borer. It is 27.9mm long, 22.6mm wide and 5.5mm thick; it weighs 3.65 grams.

Three flakes or parts of flakes with small areas of retouch probably from casual use as tools. Flake 1: secondary flake struck off a platform with c.15% thick downland flint cortex remaining down the left side (on the dorsal face). Multiple arises from previous removals and a large indent at the proximal end from a previous mis-strike on the dorsal face. Short, scalar semi-abrupt retouch down the right edge on the dorsal face make an almost straight cutting edge apart from two small unretouched projections. Large oval scraper made from a primary flake removed from a flint pebble. The domed dorsal face is covered with pebble flint cortex except around the edges where it has been removed by retouch. The ventral side is plain apart from some possible use-wear chips, it has a very defuse, soft bulb and ripples. Around half the edge on the dorsal face is long, abrupt, parallel retouch. It becomes invasive and more semi-abrupt around one side and is also longer at the point opposite this side with the edges between these areas having shorter scalar retouch and in some areas none at all. It is …

Hilt and lower part of the blade of an unfinished cast copper alloy Late Bronze Age Ewart Park type sword with patinated breaks between the fragments and at the end. The hilt is complete and filed as though finished but the sites where it would have been drilled for rivet holes are visible as indented dimples rather than completed. It has a flaring triangular finial, 34.2mm wide, with straight end which has been filed to a rounded profile. Above the finial the grip has a rectangular section with convex curved sides in plan. The sides have been filed to remove any casting flash with c…

52 pieces of burnt flint. Several show unambiguous evidence of working before being burnt and broken, others were probably also worked although their original form is now not clear due to the fracturing after burning. The burning has mostly obscured their original colour although where visible this ranged from pale to dark grey. Burning flint after working is a feature of local Bronze Age material in particular. They weigh 175.0 grams in total; the heaviest is 15.24 grams and the lightest 0.19 grams.

Cast copper alloy awl/tracer. The centre of the awl, which is circular in cross-section, measures 4.7mm in diameter. It tapers, gradually at first then increasingly, to a circular sectioned point at one end (awl end). The other end is squared off just beyond the mid point then tapers to a rectangular sectioned point (tracer end). It is 44.2mm long and weighs 3.51 grams. Plain copper alloy awls are hard to date precisely but ones of this form are known to have been introduced in the Bronze Age (2150-800 BC) with most being Late Bronze Age in date (1150-800 BC).

Knapped flint barbed and tanged arrowhead dating from the Late Neolithic to Middle Bronze Age (c. 2500 BC - c.1150 BC). The arrowhead is bifacially worked and sub-triangular in plan. There are two round ended notches in the base, flanking the central tang with a barb at either side. All three are almost the same length; the tang is distinctly wider and slightly longer than the barbs. One barb is complete with a rounded tip and slightly concave outer edge. Incomplete knapped flint arrowhead dating from the Late Neolithic to Middle Bronze Age (c. 2500 BC - c.1150 BC). The arrowhead is formed from a large tertiary flake; the bulb of percusison has been removed by retouch although the percussion waves are clearly visible. It is symetrical and sub-triangular in plan with a broken point and a slightly concave but very thick base with what appear to be accidental breaks or possibly the unretouched side of the flake running across the base.
