Neither terminal looks broken - thus object is complete. Ribbon is extremely tangled, but it would seem that intermediate narrowing is roughly central. The 'bar' thus created is currently tightly curved but may not have originally been so. Terminal 2 has flat section leading straight out of ribbon; no.1 is more rectangular and involves a half twist, its faces having sprung from the sides of the ribbon! No real sign of original twisting of ribbon - despite the extensive buckling there seems to be no 'extra-length' along the edges relative to the centre-line. Probably a bracelet, given …

Object type: FLAT AXEHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Bronze flat axe, unworn and in very fresh condition. It is pointed oval in its longitudinal section tapering from the centre to either end, and curving a little more towards the relatively wide and splayed cutting edge creating a very slight ridge c.22mm before it. The butt-end tapers to a thin but blunt edge. The cutting edge has suffered very minor damage and is still relatively sharp, with slight recent damage on one side. The sides of the axe are evenly curved and concave, flaring at the cutting end so that the blade curves slightly upwards at each corner, and tapering towards the …

Object type: CHISEL
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Late Bronze Age chisel, length 94mm, surface heavily pitted. The chiselling end is thin, flat and slightly broken through wear. It gently tapers for c.30mm, when it flares outwards to create a shoulder. From here it tapers inwards again to a very sharp point which would have been encased in a wooden handle. The pitted surface is probably a casting occurrence as the level of corrosion apparent down one side of the object would appear all over the object if the pitting were due to corrosion. This also suggests the object was not finished. Max thickness 4mm, width of chiselling end 9mm.

Object type: DIRK
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Fragment of dirk or dagger, too fragmented to tell exactly, though size suggests its length was not more than about 120mm long. Raised mid-rib with a line either side following the line of the blade. On the other side of this line the blade slopes away to give a smooth pointed-oval cross-section. It seems the butt was probably quite pronounced as the line of the blade on one side suddenly curves more sharply as though toward a trapezoidal butt. This is typical for the dirk, though a sharp curve at the butt is not unheard of in the dagger (Wessex Daggers, Armorico-British C -though t…

Indented socketed axe with (initially) side loop. The semi-circular indentations in the sides are accentuated by raised plates creating a waist. The cutting edge is badly worn. The object is very small and perhaps more like a chisel. However, other very similar objects (see ref. below) are axeheads.

Thin piece of copper alloy, roughly an isoceles triangle with one of the long edges curving outwards (3.8 x 3.8 x 2.5mm). No breaks, and quite possibly an object cut and redesigned to form another object. max 1mm thick, thinning to the curved and slightly jagged edge. Decoration in the form of three curving grooves that stop at the shortest edge (and possibly once continued beyond?) whilst fading towards the opposite corner. Possibly a Bronze Age sickle reused and redesigned as a razor? Seen by Stuart Needham.

Incomplete (slightly damaged) Bronze Age or Early-Medieval amber bead. It is conical in shape with a rounded body, being 11.9mm diameter at the centre and 4.7 and 5.9mm diameter at the ends The central piercing is 2.8mm diameter and the bead weighs 0.97g. The bead is 15.3mm long. The damage has occurred at one of the ends. Beads, to be worn on a string (and often found in graves), were popular in Early-Medieval times, amber being the second most popular material used after glass. Amber beads are also common Early to Middle Bronze Age burial finds.

Late Bronze Age or Early-Mid Iron Age fragment of segmented bracelet. It is complete in itself and consists of four joined hollow arcs, individually C-shaped in profile. The end two have a C shape cut into it with bevelled edges, supporting the abutting of a similar segment on either side. One of the middle arcs has a hole in it where the metal is rather thin (recent-ish damage). The metal is thicker on the underside (3mm). On both outer arcs are two c.2.5mm diameter piercings, one of either end of the arc. Presumably these are to secure the attachment of the other segments. The …
