Object type: PENANNULAR RING
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Late Bronze Age gold Penannular ring, constructed of light and dark transverse bands of gold sheet wrapped around a central core of (presumably) base metal, creating a striped effect. It is oval in section (almost circular at 7x8mm), slightly flattened and tapers a little towards the terminals. One terminal is covered in gold sheet whilst the other is open, exposing the core. Some corrosion has occurred here and obscures much of the join between the terminals and encroaches into the central void. Diam. c.18-19mm, weighs 13.30g.

Four fragments ('a' to 'd') of an early Bronze Age sword, Ewart Park phase. Fragments are co-joining with each other and with find NMS556. Only one part, from the middle of the sword, is missing, probably c. 55mm long. Whereas the mid-rib is quite prominent on NMS556, it becomes gradually flatter as the sword lengthens, and the final piece, the sword tip ('d'), is almost flat though still lenticular in section. The shape of the sword is a classic Ewart, the sides coming in from the hilt then suddenly widening before coming in again to the sword tip. Breaks are ancient and not flush…
