Record ID: WILT-4A155B
Object type: FLANGED AXEHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper alloy early Bronze Age (c.1800-c.1600 BC) flanged axehead. The axehead measures c.130mm long and c.75mm wide. The blade is roughly semi-circular in shape and the shaft and butt form a broadly rectangular shape. The axhead has raised flanges along its long edges. There is a trace of a slight transverse ridge across the face of the centre of the axehead which may have been designed to prevent the axe from splitting the handle. The axe appears quite worn and the surface, especially of the blade, is pitted.
