Grey flint with cortex strip, possible scraper. A small chip with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side and with a concave patch on its ventral surface. Patches of misty patina have formed over struck surfaces, suggesting a limited period of exposure to a calcareous environment. This was removed by very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect to define a hollow, possibly to trim a shaft. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 28.3mm, Width: 19.6mm, Thickness: 7.7mm, Weight: 3.13gms

Grey flint with cortex spot, possible scraper. A thin irregular flake with a single large flake trimmed from its dorsal side by hard hammer strike, and with a pronounced bulb on its ventral surface. Misty white patina has formed over struck surfaces, and was subsequently removed by short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect following the wandering edge, including the formation of a lightly rounded hollow on one side. Grey flint, possibly collected from the East coast, scraper. A thick oval flake with large flakes struck from its dorsal side by multangular hard hammer strike, and with similar working of its ventral surface. Retouch, in so far as it can be determined, was angled and scalar overall, with short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect forming a straight butt. Dark grey flint with cortex, scraper. A small thick thumbnail scraper with broad flake trimmed from its dorsal side and with a bulb on its ventral surface. Angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows part of the curved edge, with some cortex retained to facilitate a grip on the object when in use. Misty patina has developed over struck surfaces, suggesting the object has subsequently endured a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Grey flint, appearing brownish under transmitted light, scraper. A small chunk with flakes trimmed from its dorsal side and with a bulbar ventral surface. Copper alloy bracelet fragment. A small segment from the cast plano-convex section band of a bracelet of estimated internal diameter c.100mm with alternating rounded drum-shaped segments and plainer sunken zones between them. The rounded segments bear traces of closely-spaced longitudinal grooves. Broken at both ends and fiercely abraded. The finder kindly cites LANCUM-F0B515 as a similar find of Middle Bronze Age date. The beaded form of bracelet also appears throughout the Iron Age, though rarely bearing the transverse decoration observed here. Suggested date: Middle Bronze Age,1600…

Copper alloy spearhead. A small cast spearhead with a rhomboid or leaf-shaped blade with a [now] rounded tip. A mid rib extends half way along the blade, and continues for a further 31mm as a facetted four-sided 'socket' which expands slightly [by c.2mm] towards its end. Here, where the mouth of the socket might be expected, the ends are solid, rounded, and crimped inwards towards each other, with a triangular facet on either side which intersects the facets of the 'socket', and it appears that a transverse pin of diameter 2mm [lost] may have passed between them to attach the head to …

Grey-green flint with darker banding, cortex spot; possible core. A large chunk of much-battered flint, with some large flakes intermittently removed by multangular hard-hammer strike. The putative working is obscured by extensive battering along all arises where the planes of the object meet, and this - and indeed possibly all traces of 'working' - might have arisen from the natural rolling of the object in surf. The finder kindly suggests an identification as a hammer stone, which may be suggested by this damage, albeit a different material would usually be selected if the object we…

Flint possible scraper. A leaf-shaped flint with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side by multangular hard hammer strike, and with some trimming of an originally undulating ventral surface. A channel along one edge probably shows the natural erosion of an intrusive feature from the flint. Pale grey flint, appearing brownish under transmitted light, debitage. A tiny oval flake with broad and narrow flakes struck from its dorsal side. Toffee-coloured brown flint with cortex, possible lithic implement. A small irregularly bar-shaped chunk with [now] rounded ends; with broad flakes struck by hard hammer from its dorsal side and a nearly flat ventral surface. Long angled retouch executed from the dorsal aspect produced a curved surface at one end, and a negative hinge fracture on the dorsal side also provides a thumb rest which would permit pressure to be exerted on either end of the putative tool. Copper alloy spearhead fragment. A small cast leaf-shaped socketed spearhead fragment with a pronounced rounded mid rib and of consequently quadrilateral section, broken just below the end of the narrow curving opposed cutting edges of its blade, probably in antiquity. The tip is also chipped, and this too may be ancient damage. The existing mouth of the socket is thicker on one side than the other, a weakness which may have promoted its breakage. The loss of the lower part of the socket leaves it uncertain whether this spearhead had side loops [a Middle Bronze Age form] or simply a h…
