A small copper alloy flat axehead. It has a thin sub-rectangular cross section. THe faces of the axe are both flat with no side flanges. The sides are slightly convex with a faint trace of a mid casting line on each. It has a slightyl flared, thinned and out-curved cutting edge without a clear facet.The axe tapers at the sides to a narrow rounded butt and the faces also taper so that it is thinned. There is considerable corrosion on one face of the axe.

Description: A fragment of embossed gold sheet, decorated with circular (repoussé) bosses and pointillé (applied to v-shaped furrows in the sheet). There are two lines of pointillé and two rows of bosses (five complete and two incomplete bosses on one row and five bosses and one incomplete boss on the other row). The fragment has be snipped along three edges, while the forth edge is ragged. Along the ragged edge are several small, intentional perforations. The four objects were found within a small area (between 4 and 10 inches depth) on cultivated stubble, with ‘no other materials nearby’. The find was made on the 28th July 2016 in the course of metal detecting with the permission of the land-owner.

Middle Bronze Age torc fragment (2003 T19)
Fragment of one end of a four-flange twisted torc consisting of part of the body and plain terminal; the greater part of the terminal is missing. The break at the terminal end is rough; at the body end the piece appears to have been cut by blow(s) from something like a chisel. It is likely to have been broken, and probably folded, in antiquity.
Maximum length (as folded) 24mm; maximum thickness (flange to flange) 8mm; thickness at terminal 5mm, weight 12.95 grams.

The find consists of two fragments of gold ‘bracelet’-length piece of gold with rectangular cross-section. The bar has been twisted and probably represents twisted decoration but the twist is not regular and we cannot be entirely certain whether this was the case when worn or whether it is a later distortion prior to deposition. It seems more likely, on the balance of probability and comparison, that it was indeed twisted and later distortion has taken place. An incomplete cast copper alloy socketed spearhead (1150 - 800BC). This object is in two pieces, found at different times. The spearhead has a leaf-shaped blade remaing on one side and a pronounced hollow mid-rib extending to the broken tip. The remaining edges of the blade are bevelled. The socket is circular. The mouth of the socket is damaged at one side. There are remnant s of side loops on both sides of the lower part of the socketed end. There is a large irregular hole on side of the lower part of the socketed end.

A rounded flint scraper. Made on a secondary flake of beige and grey patchy flint with a low gloss surface and areas of milky-white patination. At the proximal end is a wide striking platform and on the dorsal face is low bulb of percussion with a small bulbar scar and several widely spaced waves of percussion. On the dorsal face is an area of worn nodule cortex and a more recent flaking scar which has removed some of the patinated surface. There is invasive semi-abrupt parallel retouch around the curved distal edge and the right side covering around 50 % of the perimeter.

A copper tanged knife or dagger. The blade and tang are both thin with a rectangular cross section. The tang tapers very slightly into a rounded end. The blade is slightly an irregular pointed oval shape in outline and tapers to a a rounded tip. The missing handle has left a faint trace in the sutface corrosion as an ogival arc on the hilt.

A copper-alloy bag-shaped chape. The chape is crescentic with an oval opening at the top, concave sides, a rounded, slightly flared bottom, and a perforation in each face. Each of there retains a small circular sectioned, domed rivet.There is a slight lip around the edges of the opening. Around the perforations the chape is decorated with a series of closely spaced moulded concentric circles (approximately ten on each face). The surface is corrodded in some areas, but is otherwise smooth with a greyish patina.

An incomplete bronze dagger. The butt and part of the blade only remaining. The butt is curved and has four rivet holes (one broken), two at either side along the lower edge. The two inner rivet holes containing, circular sectioned rivets. The rivest would have been used to attach a missing handle and on one face there is a stain between the rivets which may be from the handle. It shows a tongue-shaped incurve similar to that seen on the handle of a dagger found in the Thames (British Museum online collection, Museum no. 1882 0518.6, http://www.britishmuseum.org/research/collection_on…

A gold penannular ring. Small gold penannular ring with decorative banding in narrow stripes, which would originally have shown as bands of yellow and paler, silver rich gold. The silver rich bands are tarnished to a grey colour. The ring appears to be solid. It has a sub-circular cross section and the ends of the terminals are flat.It may be similar to WAW-F3AE27 which examination at the British Museum was shown to have complex three-tone striping. Such ornaments are dated to the Late Bronze Age.

A thick, irregular and incomplete tertiary flake of mid grey to pale grey flint with opaque banding. The surface has a high gloss patina.No surviving striking platform or bulb of percussion. Numerous flake removals, probably from prevois working while the flake was still part of core. The removals are, in the main, wide and irregular and have been struck from multiple directions.
